At the heart of the collection of Lothar-Günther Buchheim – painter, photo-grapher, publisher, writer and novelist – are paintings and drawings by artists of the Expressionist group „Brücke“ Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Max Pechstein and Otto Müller.
These paintings are in an exciting dialogue with an European crafts collection and a museum of ethnological art as well as Buchheim’s own works. Temporary exhibitions are presenting new elements of Buchheim’s abundant collection. As a special attraction a deck is suspended 12 meters above the lake, providing museum visitors with a view of the town of Starnberg and the Alps.
Another special feature: The Museum Ship, unique in Bavaria, takes the visitors on the waterway from Starnberg to Bernried.
